Wrestling (12/19/12)

There are a couple of big wrestling matches tonight and both are in section 1B. These two matches are Hempfield at Norwin and Latrobe at Penn-Trafford. If I feel my back will hold up, I plan on trying to make it to the Hempfield at Norwin match. All four of these teams have a strong history of good wrestling and that is no different this year. Both of these matches should be pretty close and have a lot of excitement. In the match of Hempfield and Norwin, I feel that Hempfield will win it. I just feel that Hempfield has a little bit more depth. The Latrobe and Penn-Trafford match is going to be a lot like the other match in that I feel Latrobe will pull it out because of their depth. If you have nothing better to do tonight I hope that you will stop by one of these matches because it will be well worth it.

Cole Bush Heading To St. Francis (PA)

I wanted to post this a little sooner but with doctor appointments and Christmas shopping I been pretty busy.

Burrell's Cole Bush has decided where he is going to college to play football. He decided to go to St Francis (Pa) over Penn, Brown, and Bucknell. The Red Flash will use him at running back.

Music Friday

I got this idea from another blog and just loved the idea. I am going to try to post a music video each Friday. It just something a little different but I feel it will be fun to do. Music and sports have always been good together.

Today it is from Jason Aldean. The song is Take a Little Ride

Start Of Basketball Season

Tonight is the start of the basketball  regular season. This is one of my favorite nights. I am a huge fan of basketball tournaments. I have always been a fan of them. A lot of time you see teams that you won't see any other time. While it a long season, you start to get the feel of some of the better teams. The crowds are great. It just a wonderful time. But I have some bad news. I won't get to enjoy it tonight and maybe even tomorrow. My plan was to go to the Hempfield tournament but I am still having problems with my back. I'm not sure if my back can hold up sitting on bleachers for a long period of time. I do plan on listening to a couple of the game on the internet.

BTW: I like to say sorry for there not being any basketball preview. I had plans on doing one but with all that  is wrong with my back I just could not get to it. I feel I am spending more time at the doctors than anywhere else right noe.

PIAA Football Playoffs

Even though there are no Westmoreland county teams still in the PIAA football playoffs, I decided to post my opinion/guide on how far the four remaining WPIAL teams that are still alive in the playoffs will go. I feel this is going to be a strong year for these WPIAL teams. If they all play up to the way they been playing then I see three of the four teams winning state. Here is a little write up for each of the four teams. I'm not going to go into great detail because to be honest with you I don't know a ton about a lot of the other teams in the state. I've been keeping my focus on the Westmoreland teams and somewhat the teams in the WPIAL. So here we go:

We will start with Clairton. This team is on a roll and looks unstoppable. They have won 60 straight games and I don't see them losing any time soon. They are just so powerful. They are strong on defense and offense. They are well coach and just loaded with talent. I've looked at the bracket and I only see two teams that could pull off an upset even though I really, really don't think that will happen. Those two teams are Dunmore and Port Allegany. Port Allegany has a quarterback that can scare anyone but I feel that Clairton is by far so much better than Port Allegany. So much more talent on the field for Clairton. Dunmore is on the other side of the bracket and would face Clairton in the state championship game. There is no doubt that Dunmore is becoming a state power but they have a long way to go before they are at the level of Clairton. Clairton will win state without much problem.

Next we will talk about Aliquippa. This one is a hard one for me but after seeing Aliquippa a couple of times I just don't see them losing. Wyomissing is the one team that I feel could give the Quips a game. They should play Aliquippa in the state championship. The Quips should win it but don't see it being a push over game for them. Hickory and Richland are strong teams also in the bracket but I feel they both are not to the level of the Quips.

Now we will talk about West Allegheny. This is the one team that I feel will not make it to the championship game. I feel they will lose next week. Their side of the bracket is loaded. There are some very talented teams remaining. You have Cathedral Prep, Bishop McDevitt, and West York all on the same side of the bracket as West Allegheny. All three of these teams I feel are better and stronger than West Allegheny with Cathedral Prep be the best of the three (Which is who West Allegheny plays next). I will say that if they can get through their side of the bracket then they have a good shot of winning the state championship but I just don't see them making it though their side of the bracket.

Last one we will talk about is North Allegheny. There is a joke about North Allegheny. Many people call them the University of North Allegheny because of their size, coaching, and success. Can they not make it to the state championship game and win it? Of course. They can lose. There are some very strong teams in the bracket but I just don't know if any of them can beat North Allegheny if the Tigers are playing the way they are now. The defense is playing great. The line play for the Tigers has been great. The quarterback is play outstanding for them. There could be some close games but North Allegheny will win state.

I know this may not been the best preview/opinion post being that I don't know a lot about the other teams but I did not want it to be the best. I wanted it to be a lot of opinion and a little bit of a guide. I hope I did that. Thanks for reading.

I'm Back

I would like to apologize for the lack of posts in the last couple of months. It especially bothers me when I had just started the blog. The reason for the lack of posts is because of some short term health problems. I had problems off and on with my back and one day I woke up and my back was killing me . Which was nothing real big as it happen many times before. What made this different is that when I got to work I had a hard time walking and then the next couple of days I could not move. So I went to the doctor and something that I thought would be over within a few days have now extended for almost two months. It is just now starting to get better. There were a couple of other issue that were found that now has me on medicine. I do feel that things are starting to get better and should start posting a lot more which is what I have plan to do. I like to thank you for you patients.

Game Of The Week: Jeannette at Washington

This week's "Game Of The Week" is Jeannette at Washington. This has all the makings of being an outstanding game. Both of these teams are very similar. They both have a lot of talent and are very athletic. Both Jeannette and Washington will have a ton of speed on the field. The key to this game I feel is if Jeannette can stop Washington's running game. I do feel Jeannette will put up some points in this game. This should be high scoring game.

Prediction: Jeannette 43 Washington 37

Intro

First of all I would like to thank you for visiting my blog. High School sports has been a big part of my life. I played baseball in high school in Albuquerque, New Mexico and after graduation I kept stats and maintained a website for the team. Within a few months I was running two additional sites. One was a website for high school football for the whole state of New Mexico and the other contained info on the high schools in Albuquerque which covered multiple sports. After a few years I moved to Texas and started two websites there too. One was a football site and the other was a baseball site. I also kept stats for a couple of other sports. A few times I was on the radio talking high school sports and about my websites. After a few years my wife and I moved to Lancaster, Pennsylvania as my wife grew up in Pennsylvania. I started two websites there and helped with another. After a while I decided I did not have the time to keep up on them so I discontinued them after a year. I wanted to do it right. I have since moved to Westmoreland County . I been here for 4 years and I am ready to do something else when it comes to high school sports. Instead of doing a website, I have decided to do a blog. It gives me more freedom. I can post more of my opinion but still have a lot of things I would have had on a website. It also works out better with my schedule. As in the title of the blog, it will cover the teams in Westmoreland county. My blog may venture out of Westmoreland county from time to time, if I feel it will be good for the blog, but I don't see that happening a lot. I want to keep it related with Westmoreland county high schools. I know I am not the best writer, but I hope that my writing skills and this blog will grow and get better over time. Again, thank you for visiting my blog and hope you will come back and visit again.
